At the IEA Presidential encounter, candidates answered a number of questions on various subjects including Agriculture, Education and Health. The NPP flagbearer Nana Akuffo Addo who made the first submission on Agriculture losing its strategic importance with the discovery of oil said governments should continue with good measures that will improve the sector. He said the NPP will provide farmers with inputs to enable them to expand their farms to benefit the country. The President and the Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama talked about the successes chalked up by the NDC government and gave statistics to support his argument. He however, attributed the slow pace of growth in the Agriculture Sector to the depletion of the country's forest reserve. Dr Abu Sakara Forster of the CPP said the party will invest in constructing feeder roads and focus on sugarcane plantation to generate revenue for development. He said with prudent management in the Oil Sector the proceeds can be used to support the Agriculture Sector. For his part the Presidential Candidate of the PNC, Hassan Ayariga says the country's Oil is in the hands of foreigners and the country is not benefiting from it. Mr Ayariga said PNC will work hard to increase cocoa production from one million tons to two million.
