Parliament Goes On Recess Ahead Of Election 2012

Parliament will go on recess from October 31, 2012 to enable members to prepare for the Presidential and Parliamentary polls in December. Alhaji Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, the Deputy Majority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa Central, who read the memorandum on the business statement for the third week ending Friday 21, December 2012, adopted by the members, said: �the House shall stand adjourned October 31st, 2012 and is expected to reconvene on Monday, December 17th 2012 after the general elections.� The Deputy Majority Leader announced the parliamentary calendar and the unfinished business of the House. The business scheduled on the calendar is as follows: December 21, 2012, Christmas and New Year break, January 3, 2013 House reconvenes, January 4, 2013, President delivers the State of the Nation Address, January 5, 2013 Election and Swearing-in of Speaker and the Swearing-in of Members of Parliament-elect for the sixth Parliament, January 6, 2013, last sitting of the firth Parliament. The Securities Industry Bill, 2012, and Gold Trust Bill 2012 had been presented and read the first time and referred to the Finance Committee for consideration. The final report of Presidential Committee on emolument 2010 was also laid in the House, and referred to the leadership of Parliament for consideration.
