Nana Addo Delivers Policy On Agriculture

The Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has promised to bring back the Ministry of Fisheries if given the nod in the December polls. Nana Addo said the move is to give the fisher folks a voice at cabinet level. Nana Addo, who was delivering his policy on agriculture in Ho, called for strict enforcement of the fisheries Act to stop the abuse of Ghana�s marine fisheries. Nana Addo also promised to process 60% of cocoa by the year 2018. He said cocoa which has served as the bedrock of Ghana�s development for more than a century will be given a special attention. He noted that his government will continue to provide incentives to cocoa farmers in order to consolidate the gains made. An Agriculture Technology fund will also be established by the next NPP government. Nana Addo noted that the fund will address the problem farmer�s face in terms of finance. Nana Addo said he will increase access to farming lands in the northern savanna. Nana maintained that Ghana can become the power house of agriculture in West Africa. The NPP presidential candidate said his government will establish 250 mechanization centers across the country to promote the use technology and update farming methods. Backing his comments with figures, Nana Addo said in 2008 agric growth was seven point six percent while in 2011 it came down to two point eight percent. Nana Addo called for attitudinal change in the farmers are treated.
