Melcom Disaster: Police Officer Who Saved 14 Lives Promoted

General Constable Nester Aneateba, the police officer who aided in rescuing 14 of the victims trapped after the collapse of the Achimota Branch of Melcom has been promoted to a rank of full Corporal. This was in compliance to a directive by President John Dramani Mahama when he visited the scene of the incident. When President Mahama heard of the heroism and the �display of exemplary bravado� of Nester, he immediately requested that he be rewarded for others to also follow in his footsteps. General Constable Aneateba, now Corporal Aneateba, 27, was able to risk his life, entered the collapsed building several times to rescue 14 of the victims and even fainted in the process. He was however, revived through the help of the Health workers on the scene. He also sustained various degrees of injuries and was sent into one of the Ambulances around to receive proper medical attention. A statement signed by DCOP Rose Bio Atinga, Director General of the Police Administration said: �In compliance with the directives of the president, the police administration has with effect from today 8th November, 2012 promoted No. 44831 General Constable Nester Aneateba from the rank of a Constable to the rank of a full Corporal."
