EUs Plea On Special Voting Not Interference: GJA

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has advised the general public and other civil society groups not to consider the appeal by the European Union (E.U.) delegation in Ghana to the Electoral Commission (E.C.) as an interference. According to them, the E.U. is a very important partner and are quite aware of what is happening around us and I think we are better off if we allow the status quo to remain and improve upon it. The Head of E.U. Delegation in Ghana, Ambassador Claude Maerten appealed to the EC to reconsider its rules and allow the media and other Ghanaian observer missions like the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) to vote before voting day, December 7. According to them this will help in effective monitoring of the election process. Speaking on Eyewitness News, the General Secretary for the GJA, Bright Blewu stated that E.U.s appeal is to ensure that the media in Ghana play its role especially, where we are starting something new and by that I am referring to the biometric system so that nothing will make us regret. Its better to be careful rather than to take things for granted and suffer something that we will all regret later. The media has been sidelined from the special voting which is organized by the Electoral Commission before the elections for groups and persons who play a crucial role on the day of the elections.
