Black Stars Ready To Lower Bonus Requests

The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nayntakyi has revealed the Black Stars are ready to lower their demands of bonuses at the Africa Cup of Nations after a backlash following the revelations of the players bonus package for next years continental challenge forwarded to the government for approval. After earning $12,500 for each win at the Africa Cup of Nations held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea earlier this year, the Black Stars, per the proposed South Africa 2013 Afcon budget were to earn a 20% increment in the old figure ($15,000) for group games which could rise to about $25,000 if Ghana ends up winning the African title. These called for a public outcry which the Ghana FA President has explained the figures sent were purely from the players but admitted the players have heard various reactions and after a recent meeting, are ready to have their demands reviewed a bit downwards. "I can say we are almost through with negotiations on the budget proposal to the Sports Ministry. The figures we sent were based on negotiations with the players but when we recently went for a friendly in Portugal, we had further negotiations and it is possible there will be a reduction in their demands." "The players are very aware of the reactions back home regarding their demands and they are also ready to come down small so when we meet to review the budget, by all means it will be reduced," Nyantakyi explained. The Ghana FA President added that the Association is yet to confirm the new demands to the Sports Ministry but hope to finalize work on the budget in the coming week. "No figure has been agreed on yet but we hope to finalize everything by next week with the Sports Minister before it is forwarded to Castle (government) for approval," he concluded. Mr. Kwasi Nyantakyi was speaking to Kumasi-based Angel FM, according to Footy-Ghana.
