NDC Volta Rally Boycotted

A regional rally, which was expected to be attended by Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, was abandoned by many supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) last Friday. The rally, which was held at the R. C. School Park in Kadjebi, was expected to start at around 3:30pm. However, other leading members of the party and government officials were present at the function. According to DAILY GUIDEs sources at the rally, the much-touted regional event had to be turned into a constituency rally to avert embarrassment for the NDC. A source noted that the low turnout in the area sent fear down the spines of party bigwigs at the rally. Many people wondered whether the NDC was still in charge of the region, which it describes as its World Bank. He added that majority of the constituents undertook their normal activities during the event which was attended by about 600 people. The Akan constituency in the Biakoye district of the Volta region has Kabjebi as the district capital. The NDC candidate for the area is John Kwadwo Gyapong, who defected the incumbent MP, Solomon Kojo Ofori (aka Wofa Paye) during the partys primaries. The aggrieved Wofa Paye is contesting the seat as independent candidate. One Ahmed Muniru, who is supports the NDC, is also vying for the seat. A young lawyer known as Afrim Darko is also contesting the seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Dan Abodakpi, Ghanas Commissioner to Malaysia who has been in the country for a year, Ludwig Hlordze, National Youth Organizer, Regional chairman, Kwesi Aboagye and the Deputy Regional Minister, Henry Ametefe were also present. Others were the MP for North Dayi and Tourism Minister, Akua Sena Dansua, Kpando MCE, Francis Ganyaglo, Hohoe MCE, Magaret Quacoo, Jasikan DCE, Nana Bonsi, the Regional Womens Organiser, Mercy Kuada and Kwadwo Gyapong, among others. Despite revelation that constituencies in the Northern have totally rejected the NDC, Dan Abodakpi expressed the hope that the NDC would win 26 seats in the region. Kwadwo Gyapong Apologises The NDC parliamentary candidate, Kwadwo Gyapong, who is also the Regional Elections Coordinator, is reported to have pleaded for forgiveness of his sins in the past. He listed some of his achievements during his previous tenure as MP of the area (2000-2004) and assured them of abundant development when voted into power. Many described the apology of MP as belated since his popularity had already dwindled. The situation has degenerated to the extent that his posters have been defaced including ones with the portraits of President Mahama. Many NDC supporters in the area have vowed to vote skirt and blouse. Wofa Paye Disqualified The speakers noted that the incumbent MP, Solomon Kojo Ofori, aka Wofa Paye had been sacked by the party for refusing to rescind his decision to contest as an independent candidate. They described him as a traitor, greedy and intolerant, saying, should Wofa Paye win it would be difficult for him to facilitate the development of the area since he would be on his own.
