Aggrieved teachers in the Walewale District of the Northern Region operating under the name Unpaid Teachers Association (UTA) have given government a one-week ultimatum to pay accumulated salaries and arrears over a 27-month period.
They have also called on government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to offer explanation within the stipulated period.
At a news conference addressed by their secretary, Mohammed Yussif Baba in Walewale, the angry teachers said they had been demoralised as a result of the trauma and frustration for over two years.
According to them, it was unacceptable for the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) to delay the process of inputting the right information to place them on the right scale since completing college in 2010 and 2011.
Appealing to his colleagues to stay calm, Mr. Yussif Baba warned that after the deadline they would mobilize teachers, who have raised similar concerns across the country, to embark on peaceful demonstration and subsequently go on an industrial strike to demand full compliance.
