The Electoral Commission (EC) has decided that voters in this year's General Elections who did not get the opportunity to cast their ballots on Friday due to technical challenges, will have a second bite of the cherry on Saturday, December 8.
The Principal Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annor, who disclosed this to Peace FM in an interview a short while ago, said the commission concedes it will be unfair to disenfranchise some members of the electorate because their identity could not be verified by a piece of equipment.
According to her, the attention of the EC was drawn to numerous reports that most eligible voters could not vote due to the malfunction of some verification machines, thus the EC boss, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan in consultation with other stakeholders decided on this course of action.
The EC had initially insisted that no one will be allowed to vote unless they were cleared by the biometric device. Consequently, several voters were turned away after the biometric machine failed to identify them while others could also not vote because the verification machine broke down at most centres.
"Ballot boxes from the affected areas will be transported and stored in the nearest Police Station in the vicinity of the polling station," she said.
