MTN: I'm Still An NDC Member

Defeated Member of Parliament for the Lower Manya Constituency, Michael Teye Nyaunu has indicated that despite all the pre-election debate, he is still a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). In an interview with Citi FM, Mr. Nyaunu noted that because he never served the party his resignation letter, and also since the party never served him a letter of dismissal following his decision to go independent, he remains a member. The Outspoken MP, who lost his bid to return to parliament to Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ebenezer Okletey Terlarbi in the just ended elections, has however indicated that elections was free and fair. Mr Nyaunu contested the seat as an independent candidate and polled 3,658 of the votes against Ebenezer Terlarbi's, 24,367. �I did not really present any resignation letter to any party. If you followed the results from Lower Manya, there was an indication that even my supporters voted for John Mahama. I never considered myself out of the NDC. They just said it on air and there was no documentation to that effect. Circumstances before the elections are totally different from circumstances after the elections. I�m still a member of the NDC� Michael Teye Nyaunu insisted. Explaining the circumstances that led to his defeat, the defeated Lower Manya Constituency MP noted that he lost the election because most of his supporters still thought he still represented the NDC. �I did a lot of things to make the people of Lower Manya Krobo accept the umbrella. I did it for 16 years and now I had to try and introduce to them a new logo under an independent candidate within just 10 months. If the crowd that was following me and those who thronged my house was anything to by, there was no way I could have lost that seat,� he opined. Michael Teye Nyaunu however alleged that the Mahama government was working against him and thus sponsored the Deputy Minister in his bid by instructing the National Disaster Management Organisation and other organizations to distribute various to the electorate.
