Nana Agyeman Urges Mahama Administration To Put Up Olympic Stadium

Nana Kwaku Agyeman, an eminent Sport personality in Ghana has called on the incoming Mahama administration to put up an Olympic Star Stadium in Ghana. He made the call during the launch of the website for the Movement for Mahama (MFM) in Accra on Friday. He noted that the Accra Sports Stadium does not meet Olympic standards. The Committee's report on the May 9 disaster recommended the building of an Olympic Star Stadium, since the Accra Ports Stadium does not have Olympic tracks and for geological reasons it should be moved to another place. Nana Agyeman said MFM would encourage the Mahama administration to build 10 regional sports academies, so that the talents that abound in the youth could be harnessed for the nations development. He challenged the National Sports Council to be up and doing and to stop categorising sports into lesser-known sports; and give every sporting activity the needed attention. He said MFM would see to it that the Mahama administration completes the University of Ghana sports stadium to help improve sporting activities in Ghana. Nana Agyeman cautioned the government against releasing huge funds to the Ghana Football Association simple because they want to embark on Nations Cup. He advised that government should do the thorough checks before releasing such huge amounts. Nana Agyeman said he had been a card bearing member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the past 10 years, but during the election 2012, he decided to come out publicly to endorse John Dramani Mahama. He said he was a founding member of MFM not because of NDC or Mahama, but because he believed that as a founding member of MFM sports would be given the needed attention.
