Parliament Reconvenes Today

Parliament will resume sitting today (Monday, December 17) after a six week break for the December 7 elections. The house will be debating bills and loan agreements that were before it prior to the recess. This is the last session for the fifth parliament of the fourth republic. But minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has some reservations about the number of loan agreements before the house. Before we adjourned, [the] government also proposed some loan agreements, something in the region of 4 billion dollars. All together, I am not sure that at the sunset days of the dusk of a governments life one would be prudent to consider such a huge loan, he said. He is therefore proposing that the majority side of parliament should wait until the new government is put in place before such a proposal is tabled for discussion and approval. The house is expected to conclude business on Friday December 21. The minority leader doubts if attendance will be high as a result of issues arising from the elections.
