Rawlings To Celebrate 31st December Revolution Today

Former President John Rawlings is expected to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony which will be held at the Revolution Square in Accra today to mark the 31st anniversary of the 31st December Revolution. The event which is a yearly ritual is expected to have the former President light the perpetual flame at the ceremony that begins this morning. Meanwhile, it is unclear whether the leadership of the party will be attending the event as some claim they were not invited. The spokesperson for the planning committee for the celebration, Keda Bortey told Citi News he is unsure if the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings will make an appearance. I dont know whether he will come with the wife or not but I know he is coming. It is true that they havent gotten their invitation. The planning committee has prepared the invitation for all of them that is why we asked that the electronic media can assist us to invite all the people that we need to invite. He added that the invitations for all the invitees are ready but the committee has not been able to deliver them due to the Christmas holidays. In a related development, a pro NDC Group, the Cadre Front of Ghana has described the former President, Jerry John Rawlings as a traitor and therefore no member of the party should join the founder to celebrate the 31st December Revolution. Ex-President in 1981 led the Provisional National Defense Council, to overthrow the constitutionally elected Peoples National Party government, headed by the late President Dr. Hilla Limann. The wreath laying ceremony which will be held at the Revolutionary Square, Flagstaff House in Accra is an annual event where Mr. Rawlings always lights the perpetual flame. According to the group however, the founder of the party has not lived up to the role of a leader because he never ceased to attack the late President John Mills until his death. The Acting President of the Group, Lawyer Roger Bekley told Citi News, despite the fact that they looked up to him and regarded him as a role model, the former leaders wish was to make his party, the NDC lose the December 7 elections. Recent events have revealed to us that our leader..decided to take the party back into opposition; he never consulted us. He did everything that he could for us to lose this election. But by divine intervention, the Almighty God spoke that we dont need him. He questioned the rationale behind joining forces with ex-President Rawlings to celebrate the 31st December Revolution. Why should we celebrate the 31st December Revolution with him? The resolution is to boycott the celebration, the cadres dont need him and the party does not need Jerry Rawlings. He decided to hand us over to the enemy who does not seek your welfare and your well-being but your destructionhe being a traitor, he has betrayed us.
