Gye wani resurrects to shake Kumasi

Gye wani, a popular entertainment programme in Kumasi, which nearly lost its place about 10 years ago, made a huge come back during the yuletide with spectacular performances by a number of celebrated artists. People from all age groups thronged the Centre of National Culture (CNC) to share in the joy and fun. This became a reality, thanks to the joint effort of Nhyira FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, the CNC and the Ashanti Regional Office of Musicians Association of Ghana. As hundreds of children enjoyed themselves with video games, artificial swimming pool and bouncy castle, among other games, the youth packed the 2,500- capacity Apatakesie auditorium, where they were treated to high life Azonto tunes and dance hall music. The adults, who had filled the 5,000-capacity Dwaberem auditorium, were also entertained with both old and new gospel music as well as high life tunes by the likes of Professor Kofi Abraham, Reverend Mensah Bonsu, Ernest Opoku, Asebu Amenfi, Thomas Frimpong and Nana Aboagye Dacosta. Comedians such as Kwaku Manu and Kojo Nkansah alias Lil Wayne, were on hand, giving it all out, in a hilarious show. Some of the spectators, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, called for a repeat of the show during the Easter holidays. Mr Peter King, Public Relations Officer of the CNC, said it would be held annually to offer the people in Kumasi time to relax.
