Fire Guts Slum At Graphic Road

Hundreds of people have been rendered homeless at Ecomog; a slum around the offices of Graphic Communication Group as fire razed down their homes during the late hours of Saturday. The cause of the blaze is unknown as personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service remained tight-lipped. Residents say the fire started around 2:30pm shortly after some officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana came to work on a faulty electricity pole Just after they left, the fire started. Residents started fighting the fire after it started before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene. Properties going into thousands of Ghana cedis have been lost but a few were able to salvage some personal items before the inferno got out of hand. One woman who had been affected by the tragedy says she is now in a dilemma as to where her family will lay their heads for the night. My worry is where my family will sleep tonight because we have lost everything. All our clothes are burnt. We went hawking when we heard that this place was on fire. We rushed back only to be met with this scene. We could not even save a pin. We do not even know what to eat, she said. We are appealing to the government to have mercy and help us because we are also children of Ghana. God is our helper but we know He will help us through the government, she added.
