Asamoah Gyan: Ghana Must Prove AFCON Favourites Tag On The Pitch

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says they must prove that they are title favourites for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after the Black Stars were tipped by pundits to lift the trophy. The Black Stars have been tipped among the favourites for the title because the four-time champions had good pre-tournament form in Abu Dhabi. Ghana beat giants Egypt 3-0 in a friendly last week before fighting back from two goals down to defeat Tunisia 4-2 in the UAE. Despite being confident of his teams chances, says the Black Stars must prove on the pitch that they are favourites to win the title. People say Ghana are the favourites. We do appreciate that but football is demonstrating on the field. We are here to demonstrate it on the field, Gyan said. We are not here to predict. The positive results will come by the efforts of the players. It will depend on the commitment of the players. We are here to do our best and let the field decide. The 29th edition of Africas continental championships opens in South Africa on Saturday with the host nation taking on Cape Verde Islands at Soccer City. Ghana will play their first game on Sunday against DR Congo as the Black Stars seem the obvious favourite to top Group B.
