One picks nomination form for Council of State position in W/R

One person from the Western Region has picked a nomination form from the office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Sekondi for the Council of State position. Mr Steve Opoku-Mensah, Western Regional Officer of the EC, disclosed to the Ghana News Agency in an interview Takoradi but he declined to give his name until submission. Mr Opoku-Mensah expressed the hope that more interested people would come for the form by Tuesday which is the closing date for submission. He said the region has the opportunity to elect only one person to represent it in the council which has a representative from all the 10 regions in addition to the 15 members to be appointed by the government. The EC Officer indicated that his office received seven nominations in 2008 and hoped that the figure may swell this year. The Council of State elections, according to him, would be conducted by February 6, at the Regional Coordinating Council within the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis. The council is supposed to serve as the highest advisory body to the president and the government of the day on any development issues, policies and programmes.
