Two people have been busted by the Police for allegedly attempting to sell unwholesome chicken they collected from a refuse dump at Teshie. The suspects, Mensah Annan, 46, a refuse dump attendant, and Faustina Adjetey, 60, a fish monger, both residents of Teshie, are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. The unwholesome chicken is said to have been roasted by the suspects for sale at the market. About 20 sacks of the meat were seized after their arrest. They are to be destroyed after investigations. The Teshie District Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Tibil Punobyin, told the "Ghanaian Times" that following a tip-off, the police and officials of the Food and Drugs Authority proceeded to the area and arrested the two people. Supt. Punobyin said the products were suspected to have been dumped at the refuse site by a cold store firm. He said the police have mounted a search for the driver who dumped the products at the site. The Head of Animal Produces Unit of the FDA, Mr. Kwame Nsiah Poku, said the Public Health Act states that �A person shall not sell, offer or expose for sale or have in possessing for sale, or deposit with, or consign to a person for the purpose for sale or food intended for, but unfit for human or animal consumption.� Therefore, any person found engaging in the practice should be arrested and prosecuted. Mr. Poku advised companies which want to dispose of their products to collaborate with the FDB to help ensure the safety of the public.
