IGP Has Reached His Retirement Age

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur, has said the Inspector General of Police had to "proceed on leave" because he has reached his retirement age. Ghanaians should thank God for the life of the IGP, Paul Tawiah Quaye, for the good services he rendered as the head of the Ghana Police Service. Paul Tawiah Quaye was asked to commence his compulsory 90-day terminal leave in a statement signed by Dr. Raymond Atuguba, Executive Secretary to the President. In an interview with OKAY FM on Saturday, DSP Cephas Arthur stated that the Presidents directive to Paul Tawiah Quaye to proceed on leave was due to his pension age. Its very true he (Paul Tawiah) has been asked to proceed on leave by the President. Every public servant is supposed to retire at the age of sixty (60) years so another competent Ghanaian just like Paul Tawiah will pick up the baton, he said. Paul Tawiah Quaye has served the Ghana Police Service with all humility and due to his hard work, he was appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). "He is now sixty years old and in accordance with our rules and regulations, he is supposed to retire, Cephas Arthur told OKAY FM. According to DSP Cephas Arthur, Ghanaians must appreciate the wonderful service by Paul Tawiah Quaye during his term as the IGP due to the fact that its a very challenging position to hold and also ask Ghanaians to pray for him. We must thank God he has been able to serve his term and will be leaving office as a healthy man. The job of the police is a very dedicated one; its a very difficult work to do. Most of our service men die on duty when combatting armed robbers. Mr. Tawiah could have been one. So if he will be leaving office alive, we must thank God for that, he said. DSP Cephas Arthur also confirmed Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, Deputy Inspector General of Police as the acting Inspector General of Police until further notice. H.E. the President, John Mahama on February 1 approved for Paul Tawiah Quaye, Inspector General of Police to commence his compulsory ninety (90) days terminal leave from 5th February to 4th May, 2013.
