Maintain Gbevlo-Lartey...

A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters resident in Nima has appealed to the President to retain Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (rtd) as National Security Co-ordinator. It said since his appointment in 2009, Lt Col Gbevlo-Lartey had demonstrated professionalism and competence and had worked hard to sustain peace in the country. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Issaka Amoani, President of the Untouchable Group of Nima, said the National Security Co-ordinator had, in the past four years, managed the countrys security with rare skill and ensured that conflicts in Yendi, Bawku and the Gbi area had not escalated. He said various land and chieftaincy disputes were also being dealt with and logistics being provided to the national and regional houses of chiefs. With terrorism spreading over the sub-region and the killing and maiming of innocent civilians in Nigeria, Mali, Kenya, Somalia and Algeria, President Mahama must ensure that the National Security Co-ordinator is a professional, is pragmatic and experienced and Gbevlo-Lartey fits these descriptions, he said. Mr Amoani said the professionalism exhibited by Lt. Col. Gbevlo-Lartey had ensured that in spite of the lawlessness being exhibited by some politicians, there was general peace and tolerance. No society can develop in the time of conflict and war. To ensure that Ghana continues to live in peace and in the interest of national security, we humbly urge President Mahama to maintain him as the National Security Co-ordinator, he said. Mr Amoani also commended a former Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr Kobby Acheampong, for distinguishing himself, saying he assisted the former sector ministers to perform their duties creditably. He said Mr Acheampong had ensured the ongoing implementation of the key components of the Ghana Police Service five-year development plan and also helped to address the logistics challenges of the Ghana National Fire Service.
