Were Prepared Col. Atintande

Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces Colonel Mbawine Atintande has assured of the readiness of Ghanas contingent to help enforce peace in Mali. He intimated that all preliminary examinations have been carried out and the first batch of 30 army officers will give good account of themselves. Speaking to Roland Walker on TV3s 7GMT, Col. Atintande said there should not be cause for alarm since the officers will be comfortable with the work they have been mandated to do. For factors that we know or what we are mandated to do are things we are comfortable with, he said on Tuesday. We are very prepared, he assured. The Ghana Armed Forces has promised to send 120 officers to northern Mali as part of the mission of Africa-led International Support Mission in Mali (AFISMA) to recover the occupied regions of northern Mali and to restore it back to civilians. The officers are mainly engineers. French-led forces entered the West African country on January 10, 2013 and have since regained key towns previously under the control of rebels. Other African countries such as Nigeria, Niger and Chad have also sent troops to help combat the rebels, who seem to have been overpowered and reported to have taken to suicide bombing.
