Alhaji Muntaka 'Fights' For Former Miss Ghana

A move by Joy FM, an Accra-based radio station, to ridicule a female Member of Parliament (MP) on the Appointments Committee has been greeted with a slap on the face from the Majority Chief Whip Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, who is also the MP for Asawase in the Ashanti Region. Mrs. Benita Sena Okity-Duah, a former Miss Ghana, in her quest to test the alertness of the Foreign Affairs Minister-designate turned upside down the red, gold, green-coloured Ghanaian flag, but this was immediately detected by Madam Hannah Serwaa Tetteh, during her vetting. Presenters of Saturday light-hearted fun-news show christened Weekend City Show on Joy FM, have, however, for the past three weeks been persistently making mockery of Mrs. Okity-Duah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region. For instance, the two presenters Anny Osabutey and Nii Aryee Tagoe, a banker, have incredibly claimed that the senior national team, Black Stars failed to perform, because Ghanas flag was turned upside down, by Mrs. Okity-Duah. Having monitored the behaviour of the two presenters for the past three weeks, cracking expensive jokes out of the performance of the new legislator, MP for Asawasi and Majority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka, called into the show last Saturday morning and registered the Committees displeasure, saying their attitude was hurting the female MPs. The ex-Youth and Sports Minister, who himself had been a victim of the same show said that the Appointments Committee was not happy with the continuous hammering of the incident, saying it has the tendency to demoralize and deter women from taking leadership position, especially those with political ambition. Alhaji Muntaka disclosed that prior to the appearance of Madam Hannah Tetteh, of the vetting, Mrs. Okity-Duah informed the committee of her decision to test the alertness of the Foreign Affairs Minister-designate by intentionally turning upside down the national flag, as her strategy to scrutinize the nominee, and was given the go ahead.
