NDC Have Not Been To 'Antoa Nyama' To Overturn Election Invocation

The Ashanti regional secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has categorically denied that, the party, lead by its General Secretary, Asiedu Nketia, have been to the Ashanti Region to overturn an invocation of the Antoa deity by Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, the Regional Chairman of the Party. Yamin stated: whiles I was supposed to be in the Ashanti Region together with the President, the General Secretary and Yaw Obimpeh, the Regional Chairman, overturning the invocation, we were all in Accra at the same time. So for the first time in my life, I have learnt I can divide myself into two, with one part in Kumasi and another in Accra. There were media reports that the leadership of the NDC thronged the town of Antoa on Wednseday, to overturn an invocation by Yaw Owusu Obimpeh days before the just ended general elections. He asked the powerful deity in the Ashanti Region to kill the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo, the Manhyia MP, Mathew Opoku- Prempeh and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong if they had stock piles of arms to cause mayhem in the elections. The invocation followed allegations and counter allegations between the two leading political parties over who was piling up weapons to create chaos in the December 2012 elections. Speaking on Okay FMs "Ghana Decides" programme, the Ashanti Regional NDC Secretary recounted how bewildered he was upon hearing the story on Hot Fm, an Acccra-based private radio station, whiles he was in the middle of a political talk show program in the same media house. The media report, to his amazement, named him as one of the NDC entourage to Antoa. According to Yamin, all the Regional secretaries and their Chairmen, which include, the persons named in the Antoa journey were in Accra with him as such the story cannot be true. The story started two weeks ago on Ash FM, a station belonging to Ken Agyapong so everyone must know the agenda being pushed, he alleged. He also stated that, the reporter whom he knows very well could not say if he had seen any of the leaders whose names he had mentioned earlier in his reportage. The NDC chairman had called a press conference to contribute to the worrying reports of violence in Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. In a shocking departure from the main agenda for the press conference, Mr Obimpeh took out a bottle of schnapp and in an incantation, mentioned the names of the three leading members of the NPP.
