NPP Presents Particulars Of Claim In 11,916 Polling Stations

The Petitioners/Plaintiffs in the going Supreme Court case challenging the validity of the outcome of the December 7th General Elections, Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey have presented all the documents supporting its amended claims for Presidential results from 11,916 polling stations to be annulled. This is contrary to earlier media reports which claimed that the petitioners had presented documents in relation to only the 4,709 polling stations whose results were initially challenged by the petitioners prior to the amendment of the petition. Sources both within lawyers of the petitioners and within the registry of the Supreme Court confirm that the petitioners on Tuesday, 12th February, 2013 filed almost 61,200 sheets of copies of documents and evidence made up of details of all the 11,916 polling stations where irregularities affected the conduct and outcome of the election results and based on which, the petitioners are calling for the Supreme Court to annul results from all such affected polling stations. The Supreme Court on 5th February directed the petitioners in the case to provide further and better particulars to the three defendants on its claims concerning the conduct and outcome of elections in 4,709 polling stations within seven days. The Court subsequently after admitting the amendment of the petition on 7th February gave the petitioners an additional 7 days to furnish the defendants in the case, namely the Electoral Commission of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress, further and better particulars from the over 7,000 additional polling stations the petitioners are praying the court to annul. However, to demonstrate it readiness to prove the strength of its case and evidence, the petitioners decided to file all documents regarding the 11,916 polling stations including details of the polling station names and codes. The petitioners in all filed seventeen (17) copies of 3,600 documents to be served on the three defendants and judges of the Supreme Court. In all the documents filed amounted to 61,200 sheets of paper which were sent to the registry of the Supreme Court in 13 big boxes. Per the amended petition, the plaintiffs are now asking for the Supreme Court to annul results from 11,916 polling stations totaling 4.6million votes which if granted would see a major change in the outcome of the Presidential elections as over 66% of the votes in these 11,916 polling stations were counted in favor of NDC Presidential candidate John Mahama. The show of proof by the petitioners lays to waste various statements made by several functionaries of the NDC and Electoral Commission to the extent that the petitioners had no case and no evidence to support the allegations of widespread and systemic irregularities in the December 7th polls which affected the outcome of the elections.
