Benyiwa Doe: I Feel Proud To Have Served The Central Region As A Minister

Outgoing Central Regional Minister, Comfort Ama Benyiwa Doe, says she feels proud and honoured to have accepted the challenge in the Mills led administration to serve the Central Region, her native region, as a Minister for four years and believes she has left behind a very good legacy. According to her, her main objective when she was appointed as the Regional Minister was to set a standard and uplift the name of the Region when it comes to development and hopes her successor, Emmanuel Kweku Tei Hammond, will continue to help the ruling government achieve its Better Ghana agenda. She noted that even though her duty was a herculean one, she was able to chalk a lot of successes because of her experience and relationship with people who supported her throughout her tenure. I faced some problems in my line of work as the Central Region Minister in most of the communities, but I was able to solve such problems with the help of the people and community elders. If I may recall, we had a lot of conflict in Agona Swedru which had it not been the help of the security service, it could have resulted in a chaotic situation. I really thank the police for their backing, she said. Speaking to PEACE FM, the former National Womens Organiser of the NDC, listed some developmental achievements she chalked under her stewardship in the Region. Under my leadership, we were able to construct and do some repair works on some major roads in the metropolis. We also constructed 8 foot bridges for the indigenes for easy access when crossing roads when it comes to education, the GETFUND helped us to put up a number of school buildings to eliminate schools under trees which was and still is a major priority of the ruling NDC party. Many Senior High Schools benefited from the GETFUND when dormitories, dining halls and assembly halls were constructed for them. Most of the constructions are still on going and will be ready in due time, she stated. Whiles commending the ruling party for providing people in the region good drinking water, she also added that due to her industrious service, the NDC was able to retain most of its seats in parliament and hoped the incoming Minister improves on that. Though her term of office as Central Regional Minister has officially ended, the NDC stalwart pointed out that she is not a spent force and was ready to serve in any capacity in the Mahama led administration. Leaders of the party have assured me that I still am relevant and have more to give therefore when the time arises, it will be known to everyone, she said.
