Legal practitioner and Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo has cautioned the general public about the health hazards of dumping refuse at prohibited areas. She has urged the government to make good use out of the waste products on dumping sites. She maintained that if the waste products are managed properly,biogas and electricity could be generated from it. Making reference to countries such as South Africa and Brazil, the newly elected MP, urged President Mahama�s administration to emulate the ways the above countries manage their waste products. Speaking to Kwame Nkrumah on Okay FM�s "Ade Akyia Abia" programme, she noted that if pragmatic measures are taken to manage our waste, the government could generate employment out of it. "In Brazil, India, Mexico and South Africa, they have been able to generate employment out of their waste management system. They have derived electricity, gas, landfill sites and recycling from it. They have been able to manufacture gas and electricity from their waste as they burn it,� she added. According to Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, she is enthusiastic about this campaign of making good use of our waste because it is a prudent way of getting rid of malaria, hepatitis B and C, cholera and typhoid fever.
