The president of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, has called on government to recognize the efforts of medical practitioners and motivate them in ways that would police them to always give their best. This follows news report that surgeons at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have successfully separated a three-month-old pair of Siamese twins. The surgical procedure to separate the twins was reported to have been deferred twice due to their intense condition. Doctors, according to sources needed to monitor the situation for some time before they could perform the surgery. Speaking to Okay FM after Tuesday's surgery, Dr. Opoku-Adusei stated that the nation was fortunate to have experts in the medical field as such it was the duty of successive governments to ensure they improve upon existing infrastructures to make their work easier. Touching on the issue of doctors rescinding their recent nationwide strike in the country, Dr. Opoku-Adusei disclosed it was borne out of their conviction that the meetings between their outfit and the government would yield positive results. He added that their strike was based on governments� role to be committed to them and not necessarily on �physical cash�. Dr. Opoku-Adusei ended by spurring government to do its possible best not to motivate only medical officers but also other outfits which had adequate Ghanaians managing it.
