Yamin Mocks NPPs True State Of The Nations Address

The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Joseph Yamin has described the True State of the Nations Address delivered by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as laughable. He indicated that the state of the Nations Address is not a prerogative of anybody but the president of the country; in this case President John Dramani Mahama. The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by Hon Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, on Wednesday presented what they consider to be the True State of the Nation Address at a news conference in Parliament. According to the NPP, The Mills-Mahama administration inherited a total public debt of US$8 billion (paragraph 94 of 2009 budget statement), the equivalent of GH9.5 billion at the beginning of 2009. Within just 4 years, this debt escalated to GH33.5 billion. This means every year, from 2009 to 2012, the NDC-led government adds GHC6billion to our public debt, 55% of which is borrowed locally. Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, Joseph Yamin said it is not just giving the state of the nations address but also providing solutions for it; adding it is only the President who can provide solutions to the problems facing the country. It is laughableif all the political parties in the country are to give the state of the nations address, there will be chaos. It is a democratic right for everyone to express his mind but everybody cannot just get up and give the State of the Nations address. What do they want to achieve with what they came out to say? he questioned. Yamin added that even if the country has a lot of debts to pay, the NDC led administration have been able to achieve a lot of things; which is an indication that the money borrowed was used for something substantial. It is laughable; are the NPP in a position to solve the problems the country is facing? The answer is No. It is only the President who can do that he added.
