Though Ghana�s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has suffered certain challenges ever since its inception, the Chief Executive of Ghana�s National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Mr. Sylvester A. Mensah, has maintained that the scheme is ranked higher and better than that of the United Kingdom and the United States of America. According to him, the NDC administration has improved upon the existing system tremendously and has made the scheme, the �toast of international community�. Mr. Sylvester A. Mensah acknowledged that between the periods of 2009 till date, his outfit has done their possible best to address pressing issues which was stalling the scheme from growing. He added that with the introduction of the Claims Processing Center and Clinical Audit, it has eliminated most of the inefficiencies the unit encountered and has yielded dividend. According to him, several countries have now come to Ghana to learn how efficiently our health scheme operates. "In fact the National Health Insurance Scheme as it operates today is more efficient than the system in the US and the system in the UK. We are one of the leading National Health Insurance models in the world...that is not to say we don�t have challenges and have been able to eliminate all our inefficiencies,� he added. Elaborating on what makes Ghana�s National Health Insurance Scheme a toast of the international community, Mr. Sylvester Mensah stated on Okay FM that: �the model we have is a superior model, the efficiency level in Ghana�s Health Insurance system is higher, the management competence we have in Ghana is significantly high, and we are certainly having a more efficient system�.
