A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Peter Boamah Otukonor says the opposition New Patriotic Party parliamentary members are befuddled about their decision regarding President John Dramani Mahama. He described as �hypocrisy� the NPP MPs� decision to participate in the budget presentation by the Finance Minister, Seth Tekper, in Parliament on Tuesday, March 5. According to him, the minority�s U-turn indicates that the NPP is sitting on the fence and it�s about time they declare their true stance to Ghanaians. Speaking to Peacefmonline.com on Friday, Peter Otukonor believed their decision is a blatant disregard for the principle held by the party. He explained that it is ridiculous for the NPP Parliamentary core to disdain the legitimacy of President Mahama but on the other hand take keen interest in the budget which he said spells out the President�s policy. �It is so ridiculous to say that when Ministers are brought to Parliament for them to vet them to ascertain whether they qualify for the job or not qualify for the job. You will say that you will not participate in the vetting; you�ll not participate and prove whether the people are qualified or otherwise but when the people have been qualified and approved by the Committee, you�ll sit in Parliament and participate in the voting�Can you imagine? Is it not so ridiculous? Doesn�t it appear double standard?...I think that smacks of hypocrisy and clearly the NPP needs prayers.� �They happen to be very, very confused. They happen not to know how they will live their political life in this country,� he recounted. He could not fathom the logic in the minority�s recent decision to be present during the budget presentation and alluded to the opposition MPs walkout of the President�s nation address, by virtue of it he insisted the party is living a double standard. �The President�s State of the Nation Address, does it get nullified when in the most unlikely situation, the President leaves office? The President�s State of the Nation address, does it expire�?� he queried. He therefore advised the minority to �swallow their pride� and apologize to the Ghanaian citizenry for their behaviour. �It is also important to make the point that the claims that have been made by the NPP is so hypocritical to the extent that, I believe electorates are getting fed up, and the electorates are getting very angry. And even NPP members in the party are getting so very angry with the behaviour of the NPP,� he told Peacefmonline.com
