Arsenals rally to beat Tema Youth

Douglas Nkrumah grabbed the headlines at the Golden City Park in Berekum after securing a vital second goal to gift the relegation threatened Arsenals all three points over visiting Tema Youth. Nkrumah's goal was a reward for his countless effort from dead ball situations on a day that the hosts proved how much they needed all points to give their relegation battle a measure of hope. Tema Youth took the lead on 20 minutes through Isaac Nyarko from a free kick which was 25 yards away to stun the vociferous Berekum Arsenals supporters. Nyarko stepped up to effect a free kick the visitors earned just around the area. And while Tema Youth players were dotted all over the place expecting an in-swing, the burly player went for glory with a strong hit that beat goalkeeper Henry Yartey in post. The homers reacted spontaneously and Tema Youth was lucky to survive the onslaught as goalkeeper Kofi Mensah did well to palm away a dangerous ball that appeared to be heading into the net. The Gunners kept charge of the game, mounting incessant pressure on their guests who sat back and tried to operate from the break and strongly counted on the agility of Mensah to twice save their blushes in succession. Arsenals probe earned a decent look in the 41st minute when Dauda Ibrahim flicked home from an in-swing to pull parity with his markers caught ball watching. The hosts walked straight into attack and earned a free kick almost immediately, but Nkrumah's effort flew to safety effortlessly. The homers held possession and saw Bright Kukubor missed two fine opportunities in-between play before Nkrumah came close to giving Arsenals the lead when goalkeeper Mensah's timely save in 74 minute from a free kick kept the scores unchanged. Believing they could produce a win, Arsenals kept their hold on the game and it took Mensah to save Daniel Appiah's blushes three minutes on when the defender in an effort to clear danger turned the ball towards his own net. The goalkeeper however read the situation well and parried away to keep Tema Youth in the game. Nkrumah's efforts paid off on 82 minutes after he consolidated Arsenals lead from a free kick, his first of a three to hit target on the afternoon. The former Hearts of Oak player took a carpet effort which appeared to deflect on the visitors wall to beat goalkeeper Yartey in post.
