Gov�t To Construct 5 Polyclinics In Brong Ahafo Region

Finance Minister, Seth Tekper has indicated that government will in this fiscal year construct 5 Polyclinics in the Brong Ahafo Region to enhance health delivery services across the country. Mr. Tekper disclosed this during his budget presentation on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday. He expressed government�s commitment to equipping the Komfo Anokye and Korle-Bu Teaching hospitals with radio therapy and nuclear medicine centres to streamline the activities of the health workers. Other projects to be undertaken under the leadership of President John Mahama are the �expansion of health training institutions, upgrading and rehabilitation of the Greater Accra Regional hospital [better known as the Ridge hospital] and the Tamale Teaching hospital. Supply and installation of hospital beds and other medical equipment and several other projects including the completion of district hospitals at Tarkwa and continuation of the maternity block for Tema General Hospital.� The Finance Minister also revealed that a new teaching hospital stocked with 597 beds will be constructed by government at the University of Ghana. He further outlined some works done during the Mills-Mahama administration saying under the Better Ghana Agenda, 209 new functional Community-Based Health Planning Services (CHPS) zones were created to enhance access to Primary Health Care. Also, to support improvement in pre-emergency health services, 161 new ambulances were procured. Additionally, government opened 28 new ambulance stations to complement the existing ones. This brings to total 52 stations constructed across the country. Five Polyclinics were also constructed in the Upper West Region. The Children�s Ward, Theatre for Kidney Transplant and Neurosurgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital were as well rehabilitated to strengthen the health system in the country, the Minister noted.
