NPP MP: Standard of Living Now Is Better But....

The Member of Parliament for New Juabeng South on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah has stated that the standard of living now is better than past generations, even though Ghana is still facing challenges. He explained that there has been improvement in the standard of living in Ghana now in all walks of life. Touching on telecommunication, the member of the finance committee in Parliament said that the system of communication and information accessibility in the past was shallow which limited the country on international business transactions, but the situation is now different with the emergence of the internet and mobile phones in the country; reiterating that it is now easy, convenient and fast to access information and transact business worldwide. Speaking on Peace FMs morning show programme kokrokoo Thursday morning, the NPP Member of Parliament hinted that as Ghana turned 56 years; the country ought to have made certain progress over some challenges which used to affect the nation 20 years ago. Against this issue, he stressed that the shortage of gas and water in the country now is a reflection of past challenges which used to confront the nation; and that Ghana as at now has no gas and water which make lives comfortable. According to the MP, it does not speak well of Ghana as it turned 56 and still experiences erratic power outages; adding that the past and present leaders have not planned well to solving the basic needs of the country hence the problems the country still faces. Dr Assibey-Yeboah, a former staff of the Bank of Ghana and a Senior Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Public Administration, urged leaders to sit up and plan to avoid certain petty mistakes which still hinder the progress of the country; in that there are certain amenities which are supposed to be for free in the country.
