PHOTO: 13-Year-Old Boy Killed, Sister And Mother Hacked

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy was hacked to death in the early hours of yesterday when an unidentified assassin attacked his family at Abuakwa, a densely populated community in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region. His mother and sister were also injured in the attack. Akwasi Yeboah, a student of Tweneboa-Kodua International School, was killed in what appeared to members of the Abuakwa community as contract killing, while he and his family were still mourning the demise of his father, Pastor John Opoku of King Jesus Anointing Ministry popularly known as Dwankobia Prayer Camp. The pastor passed about three weeks ago, and while the family was waiting to perform the final funeral rites in two weeks time, the unknown man attacked them on Monday around 1:30am, inflicting machete wounds on the wife of the late pastor, Felicity Opoku, 48, and daughter, Rita Opoku, in the process. Felicity was said to be in critical condition at the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital together with her daughter, Rita, a 16-year-old student of Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS). The body of the boy was deposited at the Nkawie Hospital morgue, a police source told DAILY GUIDE. According to Doris Effah, a member of the family, both mother and daughter sustained serious injuries on the head and hands when their attacker turned his gruesome act on them after slaying the poor boy in cold blood. She told DAILY GUIDE she was among the five persons sleeping in the hall of the late pastors house when the incident, which has brought shock and misery to the Abuakwa Township, happened. Doris narrated further that she was woken by the loud screams of a certain sister Akos, a good friend of Osofo Maame, who had visited them and was passing the night there. According to her, as their attacker slashed the 48-year-old widow, with blood dripping from her wounds, the assassin struck the head of Rita with the object he was holding when the girl woke up to find out what was amiss in the room. When I realised what was happening, I also screamed for help and took cover behind a sofa in the hall, and the guy fled, she submitted amidst sobs. She said she could not recognise the face of the attacker because there was lights-out in the whole vicinity at the time of the unfortunate incident. After switching on a torchlight, we saw Akwasi Yeboah dead with his throat slit, which suggests that the boy was first to be attacked, Doris stated in a sorrowful manner. She stated that the family was yet to get over the death of Pastor Opoku, making it a double agony for them. The assassin has since gone into hiding after the incident and is wanted by the police to face the consequences of his bloody action.
