PURC Has No Intention For Tariff Increment

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has said it is not considering an upward adjustment of electricity tariffs as proposed by the Volta River Authority (VRA). VRA a few days ago said there is the need for increment of electricity tariffs to boost its financial status and to discharge its duties efficiently. Director of Public and External Affairs at the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah, in an interview with Peace FM, said it has not received any official letter from VRA asking for an upward adjustment of electricity tariffs, adding, we are not looking at increment right now. According to her, even when a proposal is submitted to the Commission, we have to look into a lot of things before we can finally conclude to increase or maintain the tariffs. She admitted that the country is in a crisis in terms of electricity and water but however, there is the need for a pragmatic solution to it, instead of increment. We are not looking at increment right nowwe need to find a lasting situation to it. Even when they bring the proposal, we have to conduct investigations to ascertain if they have worked with the funds we provided for them and then publish it before we can even come and look at their proposal for increment she indicated.
