A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he is glad the supposed rename of the seat of government, "Jubilee Flagstaff House" was a typographical error, since the name did not sound logical to him. Murtala Mohammed, the NDC Member of Parliament for Nantong is relieved that closure has finally been brought to the subject after government came clear on the matter that there has not been any change of name. He was speaking to the recent hullabaloo surrounding the change of name of the Presidential Palace per an interview granted PeaceFM by the Minister for Information and Media Relations, Mahama Ayariga. Mr Mahama Ayariga told Kwami Sefa Kayi on "Kokrokoo", that station's flagship programme that the name of the Presidential edifice has been changed from 'Flagstaff House' to 'Jubilee Flagstaff House'. The minister's comment followed two press statements that were released by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Raymond Atuguba which first gave indications of a change of name of the location of the country's centre of government business. But 24 hours after that interview, a Presidential Staffer, Stan Dogbe indicated that the �Jubilee Flagstaff House� that was embedded on the letter head of the President, was a typographical error and that there has not been any official change of name. Consequently, the Information Minister admitted he had erred and took full responsibility for the gaffe saying the name still remained �Flagstaff House' and not 'Jubilee Flagstaff House'. Contributing to panel discussions on Radio Gold�s "Alhaji and Alhaji" programme, the NDC MP slammed NPP activists for their comments over the issue. To him, the opposition party has no right to even �contribute to this unnecessary debate� because when they christened the Presidential edifice, Golden Jubilee House, it had no legal backing. �There has never been any statement indicating that the edifice should be called Jubilee house and so if government wants to have an official name, it should bring the issue to a closure. We should not waste our time debating on an issue which will take us no where. Jubilee flagstaff house never made any sense to me�� he said.
