Yaw Gyan: Sir John Is Gradually Retarding The Progress of The NPP

I plead with the media not to give conspicuous importance to comments or statements of politicians who say things to destabilize the peace and progress of this country. I urge you (the media) to have the courage to tell them in the face that your utterances are not what can be disseminated to our audience. By so doing future generations would not say that because of partisan politics, we wished death upon on our opponents. - Yaw Boateng Gyan. Those were the words of the National Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, during an interview on Accra-based Adom Fm. Yaw Boateng Gyan made this appeal to the media after the General Secretary of the opposition NPP; Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie categorically accused President John Dramani Mahama of attempting to assassinate the running mate of Nana Akufo-Addo in the December 2012 general elections, Dr. Mahaudu Bawumia. Whiles travelling from Bole in the Northern Region to the Ashanti Region, two of the tyres of the vehicle the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana was travelling in burst about 20 minutes into the journey resulting in an accident. According to Sir John he suspects there was foul play on the part of the NDC and therefore has proceeded to point at the President as the culprit. However, Yaw Boateng Gyan disagrees with the assertion and states that the claims must be treated with all the contempt it deserves. To him, if the media starts to ignore such inflammatory statement by leading figures, everyone would be forced to make constructive submissions on matters of national interest. The NDC organizer could not understand why Sir John wanted to incite party supporters into thinking the President and the NDC attempted to kill Dr. Bawumia, knowing very well his statement could cause anger among party faithfuls. Let us ask ourselves what NDC would gain by killing BawumiaAre they saying the NDC would win the ongoing court case if we killed Bawumia? he questioned. Little by little Sir John is retarding the Progress of the NPP...for the General Secretary of the opposition NPP to tell the whole world that President Mahama is behind the accident without providing any prove despite the fact that he is a trained lawyer, he opined. Also, Yaw Boateng Gyan advised politicians to decouple politics from issues like this so that the whole nation would come together and wish the speedy recovery of the accident victims.
