Kpando Police Accused Of Death Of SHS Student

The Family of a Senior High School student who allegedly died in police custody is accusing the Kpando Police command for his death. The deceased, Lawrence Adiase was among scores of students arrested by the police for some disturbances last week between HAVE Technical school and Awudome Senior highs school. They were kept in Police cell in Kpando. His cell mates claim he died of suffocation due to the congested nature of the cell. Police in the area however say the student died on his way to the hospital. His uncle, Benjamin Adiase in an interview with XYZ News said the police cant absolve themselves of blame in the matter. Meanwhile, the Police headquarters in Accra has launched investigations into the incident. It says it cant for now ascertain whether or not the student died in police cells as being claimed by his family. The head of Public Affairs, DSP Cephas Arthur told XYZ News that there are conflicting reports that need to be reconciled. He however conceded that many police cells are in bad shape and require repairs and expansion. He added that efforts are already ongoing to renovate many cells across the country.
