Editor of the Searchlight newspaper, Ken Kuranchie has described the President John Mahamas approach to dealing with the armed robbery attacks that hit Kumasi in the Ashanti region as not serious.
According to Mr. Kuranchie, the presidents approach to addressing matters of security leaves much to be desired.
Speaking on Citi FMs political and news analysis programme, The Big Issue, the Searchlight editor made reference to the Ivorian situation.
Rebels armed with AK47 rifles almost destroyed a rich nation like Ivory Coast so when we have over 20 men, riding on motorbikes and shooting indiscriminately, you have a major security issue on your hands, he stressed.
He charged the president to task his security chiefs to tackle and address the nations security concerns with seriousness, stressing that the police service is disorganised.
We need to create a professional police service in this country. I am afraid that the police service we have in the country today is inadequate for our needs if we really want to ensure peace in this country, he added.
Suspected armed robbers who were on motorbikes struck terror in the heart of the Ashanti regional capital on Thursday when they fired several shots using AK-47 and pump action guns and laid siege on helpless residents.
Consequently, President Mahama summoned some security chiefs and tasked them to tighten security in the country particularly the Ashanti region.
