Asamoah Gyan Closes In On Abedi Pele's Ghana Scoring Record

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is just one goal away from equalling Abedi Peles scoring record for the Black Stars after scoring in Sundays World Cup qualifier in Kumasi. The UAE-based striker was on target as the Black Stars thrashed Sudan 4-0 in the 2014 World Cup qualifier in Kumasi. Gyans goal, his 32 in 71 appearances is only one away from the national record held by three-time African Footballer of the Year, Abedi Ayew Pele. The striker opened the scoring in the first half before goals from Mubarak Wakaso, Abdul Majeed Waris and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu sealed the emphatic win. He will have the chance to equal Abedis record in June when the Black Stars play Lesotho in Sudan in the World Cup qualifiers. Ghana will be required to win the three remaining duels with Sudan and Lesotho away, and the epic meeting with Zambia at home to make an entry into the last tier of the qualifiers which will be a crucial two-leg affair.
