NAGRAT And GNAT Should Corporate With Government - Dela Edem

Dela Edem, a member of the Communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to corporate with government in solving their grievances. According to him, the situation will not be solved if they keep on absenting themselves from meetings or negotiations organized by government or the Ministry of Education. They are entitled to their request but the method they are using is not helping anybody; moreover, government has shown the willingness to engage in negotiations and solve the issue and so NAGRAT and GNAT should also corporate, he indicated. The strike action of the teachers has entered its eighth day; however, information available indicates that they (NAGRAT and GNAT) will be meeting to discuss their next point of action following several pleas from government and parents as well as results of negotiations that has ensued so far. Contributing to panel discussions on Mondays edition of Kokrokoo on Peace FM with host Kwami Sefa-Kayi, Dela Edem who is also a teacher and a member of GNAT, said it is not fair for the students to be caught in the middle of the strike action because they are innocent, adding the teachers needs to go back. He has indicated that timing of the strike action is wrong and the students who are in their examination period are the ones going to suffer. The strike action can affect their performance in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE); and at the end of the day, it is the teachers who are going to be blamed. There are indications that government is doing something about it and so there is the need for them to change their mind. It is not the strike action or demonstration that will solve the problem
