Tragedy hit the Police Headquarters Highways Patrol Unit yesterday when one of its men, Inspector Mortsi Mensah and his immediate family perished in a motor accident at Hwakpo near Kasseh, on the Tema-Aflao highway on Good Friday. Inspector Mensah, his wife, their three children and a brother died on the spot, while three others sustained injuries. The incident occurred when the Toyota Corolla saloon car in which they were travelling collided with a Toyota mini-bus. The deceased were on board the car with registration number GT 4617 F. The Public Relations Officer of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, Inspector Simon Tenkuu confirmed the story to The Ghanaian Times. He said the accident occurred at about 6:30 pm when the saloon car travelling from Accra to Dzodze veered off its lane and collided with the mini bus which was on its way to Accra from Szodze. He said the bodies had been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy, whiles the injured persons have been receiving treatment at the Ada and Tema Hospitals.
