Medical Assoc. - Strike Is Still On-Going

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) says they have not had any information yet from government following their strike action which started on Monday. The doctors declared a strike action on Monday following discrepancies with market premium arrears for 2012. They are demanding full payment of the arrears of their market premium for the year 2012 as well as arrears of their pension contributions. Speaking in an interview with Peace News, President of the GMA, Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei indicated that the strike action is still on-going. He said even though they have not heard anything yet from government, they are hopeful that they are working on their case. They know what to do for us to go back to work and so perhaps they are working on it but for now we have not heard from them They should solve the problem and stop directing people to 37 and police hospital. How many 37 and police hospital do we have in the country? We are not asking for anything new; if they dont mind us, we will go by what we have already decided on Dr Opoku-Adusei urged Ghanaians not to see them as devils or a bunch of wicked people because they are only asking for what is rightfully theirs. He said patients should be consoled because they have not totally withdrawn their services. We are only not taking care of out-patientswe are taking of those already on admission as well as emergency cases
