The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked government to advice its communicators and ministers to stop criticizing the doctors as far as the strike action is concerned.
According to them, there is the need for government communicators to talk with decorum to avoid aggravating the situation.
Speaking in an interview on Peace News on Tuesday, General Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John also added that President John Dramani Mahama should show leadership by calling the doctors; �just as he did to the teachers and talk to them. We know the doctors are reasonable and will listen to him�.
He however, advised the doctors not to listen to the �poisonous words� of government communicators and pleaded that they go back to work.
Sir John was speaking to the recent strike action of the medical doctors which has entered its third day today.
The NPP in an earlier statement signed by Sir John, pleaded with the striking Doctors to reconsider their decision to withdraw the provision of emergency services to patients as the next phase of their current strike.
Sir John told Peace FM that the Mahama-led administration �lacks credibility and that is why we are here today. They should show real leadership and assure the doctors that whatever the issue is, it will be resolved. We plead with the doctors not to follow such people (government communicators) who talk without decorum and rather listen to the pleas of Ghanaians��
Sir John also advised the Ministry of Health to stop directing patients to the 37 Military Hospital and the Police Hospital because according to him, those facilities cannot take care of every sick person in the country.
�It seems like Government has not made up their mind to solve the issue because they keep directing people to 37 Military Hospital. How many 37 military hospitals do we have in the country? The president should rather call them (doctors) and speak words of wisdom; encouraging enough to convince them to go back to work� he added.
