AFAG To File Suit Against Police

Pressure Group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has given indications it will begin procedures to file a legal suit against the Greater Accra Regional Police Command. This, according to the group, is because of the Police Services' decision to withdraw its services promised the group for its planned April 18 demonstration, despite an earlier agreement to the contrary. According to the Police, the lack of unavailability of personnel on the said date, made it impossible for them to provide the group with protection. Speaking to Citi News, General Secretary of AFAG, Arnold Boateng said they [AFAG] will go to court to challenge the decision. "We are talking to our lawyers to see how we can challenge that decision by the Police in court because as the case is, they are bound to protect us but we are not bound to seek permission from them," he stated. "They gave us a letter, which we have put on our Facebook page, that they are ready to protect us. We are surprised at this sudden turn of events. Our thinking is that there are unseen hands in the police service pulling them or dragging their feet," Arnold Boateng added.
