We respect the cultural and historical heritage of Nkroful - Adamus Resources

Adamus Resources Limited (ARL), a subsidiary of Endeavour Mining Corporation of Canada, has said it had no intention of relocating the people of Nkroful to a different place. The company said neither was it polluting water bodies nor degrading the Nkroful lands which is the birth place of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, as it is being speculated by some media houses. A statement issued and signed by Mr Mark Addo, Vice President in charge of Sustainability, denied allegations made by the chief of Nkroful and the Association of Small Scale miners that the company�s activities was posing a threat to lives and properties. It explained that the company in its five years of operation in Nzema recognized the importance of the cultural and historical heritage of Nkroful and had no intention to relocate the people of Nkroful. The statement said the company was currently not engaged in any form of exploration or mining activity in or around the township of Nkroful as being circulated by some section of the media. �The Company respects the connection that local people have to the traditional lands where they live and would continue to work to develop strong relationships with local communities towards sustainable development� the statement said. The chiefs in and around Nkroful last weekend held a press conference and accused the company of using a ploy to dispose them of their land. The chiefs also accused the company of conniving with the Western Regional Coordinating Council and the National Security to deprive them of their natural rights. The chiefs said they would not allow the company to operate on the parcel of land which was acquired mainly for their mines. In spite of the allegation, the Company however maintained that its operations in the area was guided by environmental management systems whilst adhering to proven safe guard systems that were monitored and evaluated by key regulatory bodies including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minerals Commission. The statement also outlined measures that the company has initiated to dialogue with the chiefs and people of Nkroful explaining that on December 17, 2012, the Company met with the leadership of Nkroful at the Western Regional Coordinating Council Office in Sekondi. The meeting was used to lay out a framework to resolve the concerns of the community leaders and way of developing the project; a follow up meeting was later held on March 13, 2013 and all parties agreed that ARL was the sole owner of the Nkroful Mining Lease (concession). The company further reiterated its continued commitment to work with all key stakeholders at all levels to find amicable solutions to this impasse and ensure that the concerns of local stakeholders are addressed to help in the advancement of the project that will have significant benefits to the community as a whole. The statement said ARL has embarked on some developmental activities in the area, including the maintenance of road networks, ensuring access to potable water and sanitation, support for education and health services and improving some existing infrastructure,. Other activities are local training and capacity building, cultural heritage preservation and offering employment opportunities to people in the catchment area. �ARL is the largest employer in the Ellembelle District with a total workforce of about 943 including vendors of which 99 per cent are Ghanaians and are mainly from the the local communities,� the statement said.
