GMA: We Have Not Made New Demands

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has denied making new demands contrary to reports in the media. Dr Kwabena Opoku Adusei, President of the GMA says they only asked the Ministry of Finance to order Controller and Accountant General to make payment as agreed. According to him, they had a meeting with the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Ministry of Finance as well as other stakeholders and signed a Memorandum of understanding (MOU). They however, told the Ministry of Finance that they've had enough of just signing MOUs and nothing happens; we told him as a matter of urgency, he should translate the signing of the MOU to instructing Controller to pay the money as agreed. Speaking on Monday in an interview on Peace FMs Kokrokoo morning show with host Kwami Sefa-Kayi, Dr Adusei said: We have not made new demands and secondly, we said we will not be attending to emergency services but due to various meetings and an understanding that the ministry of finance will order for the payment of the money, we've revised our standwe only asked the Ministry of Finance to turn the signing of the MOU to be effective and to instruct controller to pay the money; this is not a new demand. He also indicated that they are not demanding the money to be paid in its totality but in installment as agreed. We have not asked for total payment; neither have we asked for the money to be given to us before rescinding on the strike action. The agreement to pay by installment must be adhered to and then the issue will be solved he added.
