CNN, BBC, Aljazeera And Others Should Come And Telecast Court Proceedings

General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has expressed joy at the decision by the Supreme Court to okay live coverage of the hearing of the election petition case and has called on the international media to also broadcast the proceedings for Ghanaians overseas. We are very happy now that the court has taken a decision to revert their earlier decision and to allow television coverage. We (the NDC) are insisting that, other television station from outside Ghana like the CNN, Aljazeera and BBC and others; we are encouraging them to come on board so that the proceedings can be telecast live for our citizens outside Ghana, he stated. Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Woode gave directive on Monday that the 2012 election petition by the New Patriotic party (NPP) against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Electoral Commission (EC) hearing should be telecast live by the nations broadcaster GTV and Radio Ghana. The nine panel judge unanimously ruled that all the court proceedings on the election petition hearing should be broadcast live on TV. Speaking to the media after Tuesdays proceedings, Asiedu Nketia noted that Ghanaians abroad have been misled by the opposition NPP and that has caused some of them to embark on demonstrations whiles others are inciting coup dtat. We take notice that some citizens of Ghana have been misled into embarking on demonstrations in Europe, America and so on. We (the NDC) hold the view that this people have been misled and fed with wrong information so we are urging the international media houses to also come and cover for the benefit of Ghanaians outside. if you want to participate in voting, you must understand the issues very clearly. After all it is our colleagues in the NPP who advocated for voting of Ghanaians outside, he said. He however called on Ghanaians to follow the historic court televise so as arguments in the media after every court sitting will cease.
