Mr. Jeff Kavianu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper Manya, has called on parents to support their girls to attain education even to the tertiary level.
He said if women area well -educated they would be able to contribute meaningfully to the development.
Mr Kavianu made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 2013 vacation camp for girls at Akropong Akuapem, in the Eastern Region, on Wednesday.
He expressed worry that some parents failed to support their female children to attain education beyond the Senior High School (SHS) level.
The vacation camp was organized by Plan Ghana, a child-oriented non-governmental organization (NGO) and the Girls� Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service, and sponsored by USAID, under the theme: �� Empowering Girls for Participatory development�.
It was attended by 320 girls from the New Juaben, Asuogyaman, Yilo and Upper Manya districts.
Mr Kavianu advised girls from deprived communities to take advantage of government�s educational interventions and achieve academic success.
He said the government through the Ministry of Education and the GES would continue to support the education of girls.
Mr Raphael Bokumah, Chief of Party of the TAP Project, said the plan was to ensure that girls, who entered school, do not become drop outs but are encouraged to at least enter SHS and beyond.
