80 Year Old Palm Wine Tapper Defiles 13 Year Old Girl

An 80-year-old palm wine tapper and farmer who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old girl has been remanded in custody by the Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Daniel Kwaku Obeng. Kofi Adu, alias Allah Sariki, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, is to reappear on May 3, 2013. According to the prosecutor, Inspector Dennis Nana Duku, the complainant in the case is a farmer at Amponya, near Jacobu in the Amansie Central District, and the father of the victim. According to the prosecutor, on the morning of April 10, 2013, Adu went to the house of the complainant and requested to see the victim. Inspector Duke said because the victim resembled her twin sister (who is younger), Adu mistook her for the victim and asked her to accompany him to his palm plantation. The twin sister of the victim who did not know the man declined Adus request after which he left a message with the girl to tell her twin sister to follow up and help him on the farm. On getting the information, the victim went to the mans farm where the man asked her whether she was interested in him. Suspecting foul, the prosecutor said, the victim decided to go back home but the octogenarian pounced on her and defiled her. Inspector Duku said after the incident, Adu asked her not to tell anyone else he would kill her. After sometime, Inspector Duku said the father of the victim detected some changes in the way the girl walked and questioned her. The prosecutor said the girl told her father about what happened to her on Adus farm. The case was reported to the police who caused Adus arrest and the girl was given a medical form to the hospital where doctors confirmed that she had been defiled.
